AHMEDABAD: The provisional merit list for degree engineering and pharmacy courses across the state has been announced by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC). Around 39,000 seats in engineering colleges across Gujarat are likely to remain vacant. The final merit list for degree engineering courses will be announced on June 19, while the final merit for pharmacy courses will be declared on June 21.
Last year, 39,668 students were included in the engineering merit list in Gujarat. Significantly, the number of students in the engineering merit list this year has come down to 33,163. Last year, 32,255 engineering seats remained vacant. This year, the number of vacant seats is expected to increase even further, as the total number of engineering seats have increased to 72,388 because of implementation of additional 10 per cent EWS quota.
Nidhi Manek , a student of Bhavnagar, has secured the first position in the engineering merit list with 99.99 per cent merit marks.
The merit list for degree pharmacy courses was also announced on Thursday with 15,336 students featuring in the list. Jikar Bipin Tapan scored the first rank in the pharmacy merit list. Compared to last year, the number of students in the degree pharmacy merit list has also dropped. Last year, 19,243 students featured in the merit list, while the number this year is 15,336.
While the number of students in the pharmacy merit list has decreased compared to last year, the number of available seats has increased as a result of implementation of EWS quota. The total number of pharmacy seats this year is 7248 as compared to 5400 last year.
ACPC officials said engineering students will have time till June 16 to complete their choice-filling in the mock round, while pharmacy students will have time until June 18 to complete their choice-filling in the mock round.
Among the 33,163 students featuring in the engineering merit list, 28,411 students are from the Gujarat state board, 3519 are from the CBSE board and 231 are from the ICSE.
